EVERLAYN BORGES

Challenging herself daily

her story

Everlayn “Ever” Borges peers out of almond-shaped eyes from under a formidable swirl of curls and waves. She is like a cat until she stirs with the spirit of a lioness. There is an undeniable presence about this Cuban born multi-faceted, award-winning actress-dancer-singer and now extreme sports athlete who was born of humble beginnings with enough ambition to reach the stars.

She began her career as principal dancer and soloist touring internationally with Julio Iglesias. Her motion picture debut came when director Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral) personally cast her in the role of Miss Cuba in the big screen thriller, Miami Vice, starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. Her face was the one Mann chose for the role and her image is the one that opens the movie.

She appeared in Italian director Claudio Risi’s film, Matrimonio alle Bahamas, as well as a number of independent features. Television credits include Showtime’s Going to California and numerous performances on Univision’s popular Sabado Gigante variety show. Her appearances on HDNet’s series, Get Out, spawned Everlayn’s international fan base. A brand ambassador for Havana Air, Havana Roasters Coffee and Born of Water sports apparel, she has been featured in dozens of music videos and commercials for global brands.

Everlayn thrives on the challenges of extreme sports excelling at JetSurfing, skydiving and scuba diving – even with sharks! She is a freediver who plumbs the depths of the ocean to swim like a mermaid without the aid of breathing apparatus. Back on terra firma, she enjoys traveling to exotic places, recently motorcycle riding across the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat in Bolivia. There, she says, “The sky and the earth become one.”

Everlayn’s story began in Matanzas, Cuba, near the legendary Varadero Beach. Her popular singer-musician father vanished at sea in an attempt to find freedom in the United States. After his disappearance, she was left with a legacy of talent as well as courage.

Chosen at 8 to attend the National School of the Arts in Havana, she excelled at classical ballet and contemporary dance. At 17, while a member of an international dance troupe, she made her own escape from Castro’s Cuba. Fleeing from a hotel in Mexico, her journey took her from Juarez to Texas, across the Rio Grande and finally to Miami.

Miami has since had a love affair with Everlayn. On stage in the tropical city, she played both Maria and Virgen Caridad in the hit musical, "Miami Libre," a production of the prestigious Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. She starred in the improv comedy, "Tony and Tina's Wedding," the regional production of the longest-running off-Broadway comedy in history directed by the show’s co-creator, Larry Pelligrini. In 2015, she appeared in “Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding,” directed by Tony Lauria at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Her performance as the loco manicurist Martika in the comedy, "Combing Through Life's Tangles," earned her a FREC award and made the character much-loved in Miami theater history.

An entrepreneur as well as a performer, she is developing a number of projects as producer and CEO of her own production company, Buddha Belly Productions, LLC. Everlayn is an Advanced Open Water Diver and an AFF-trained skydiver.

Everlayn attended the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts and continues to study there under Jay Goldenberg. She makes her home in Miami, New York and Los Angeles.
